We’re going to get hyphy on, with, and with regards to computer games. That’s right, you’re a programmer now; a developer. C# ain’t shit. You’re the man. Crack that bloomsbury introduction to philosophy of computation, score some meat broth, and dwindle away the hours of your crippling long covid with me — programming simple games in Unity.
We’ll talk shop about games by Kara Stone, Jose Sanchez, and Jason Rohrer and try to figure out what the fuck combinatorics are. Hell, we may even try to beat that zoombinis pizza level. Mensas only.
Basically we’re going to connect a PureData synth to Unity to link up Sanchez’s polyomino workflow (it won’t look this good) to a note generator and if we’re cool enough (we’re not) we’ll code it up to react procedurally to its own topology.
This course is especially designed for people who have never even seen a computer before. Come chill. I’ll be too afraid to make out with you, but I will make you better at whatever it is that you think that you are or are not, particularly if that is — or is with regard to — game design in Unity.
Learning Outcomes

- Belong to groups that are traditionally underrepresented in the graphic design and creative industries
- Do not have jobs that would pay for these courses as professional development
- Cannot independently afford the class at list price
- Share our value of intentional community
The number of selected applicants chosen is subject to the discretion of Index and the instructor, but every course will select at least one. Applications are due Oct 27, 2022 and recipients will be notified Nov 1, 2022. Apply here.
